Watching the thermometer… go up.

As we transition from a expected start of the Tour Divide (we were originally leaving Las Cruces on the 8th or 9th of June, 2020) to “normal” riding and training, we have seen more road biking and a bit shorter MTB rides come into play. It’s simply not much fun, and is simply grueling to ride in 100 degree sunny weather, on washboarded roads of sand. It is just not something you really want to do day after day.

Transitioning also pushes us to earlier rides…and later rides, out of the heat of the day. Another thing it does is pushes us towards road bikes that afford faster movement, and thus more evaporative cooling. It much easier to cool at 20mph that grinding up a hot trail at 5 mph.

One thing that hasn’t changed are the ever present rattlesnakes. We dropped a pin to find this one again later.

Another feature of this week’s post are photos from a ride on the SST . This rugged and incredibly challenging single-track near Las Cruces will test your technique and fitness. Lola found out as she faulted on a technical climb and landed up full body in a prickly pear cactus!!

We’ve also had the opportunity to ride with different family and friends (socially distanced of course). Susan Singly, Sergio Pacheco, Lola Cunico, Zane Cunico, Laura Burkett, and Rene Oz make an appearance this week!

One thing hasn’t changed…we’re riding, always riding!
