The Heat Is On!!
Here in southern NM, hot weather during the summer months is just a fact of life, and something we adjust to and “embrace”.
This year is no different, as we have seen our first 100F day. This means that our prime riding time is early in the morning and secondarily in the later hours of the evening, as it cools down into the low 90s. In Las Cruces, the humidity in the May and June time-frame is usually around 20% in the morning and drops to the single digits as the day heats up. So, yeah, it’s a dry heat!
This week saw us riding in the Mesilla Valley, and doing a bit more road cycling, as the roads have gotten more and more sandy, and wash-boarded. We do more that just “make do”, we embrace cycling in the Mesilla Valley and love the sights and friends we get to see (even if socially distant).
One small benefit of the spring riding are the Mulberry trees are producing fruit. Normally a fruitless variety, some of the local trees do produce these incredibly sweet, dark, delicious fruit. We take advantage of them as well find ourselves hiding under the trees during rest stops in an attempt to get out of the sum. Yum!
